چکیده

ume overload was created in open-chest dogs by pumping blood from the left atrium to the right atrium. In seven of eight dogs changes in interventricular septum motion were produced acutely at shunt flow as low as 500 cc/min. When the shunt was decreased or stopped, interventricular septum motion returned to normal. Shunts producing left ventricular volume overload (aorta to left atrium and right atrium to left atrium) caused no change in interventricular septum motion. Clinical observations showed that six of seven patients with partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection and no atrial septal defect displayed abnormal interventricular septum motion on echocardiography. Twenty-one patients undergoing surgery for atrial septal defect were studied before and after operation. Sixteen of the 21 had abnormal interventricular septum motion preoperatively; the abnormal interventricular septum motion returned to normal in only one of the 16 patients during a postoperative follow-up period of up to one year. Three patients were studied only postoperatively up to six years after closure of atrial septal defect; all three retained abnormal interventricular septum motion. Since the abnornal motion of the interventricular septum seen in patients with atrial septal defect can be produced and reversed acutely by creating a left-to-right atrial shunt in an experimental model, this abnormality must indeed be related to right ventricular volume overload. However, failure of interventricular septum motion to revert to normal following surgical correction in patients with atrial septal defect suggests that additional factors are involved in the persistence of this abnormal motion.

Abnormal diastolic motion of interventricular septum during inspiratory phase. Echocardiographic study.

We report on a patient without heart disease who had pulsus paradoxus, associated with echocardiographic evidence of abnormal and exaggerated diastolic motion of interventricular septum. Both phenomena appeared at the peak of the inspiratory phase of respiration, and seemed to be produced from the same haemodynamic variations, of which the echocardiographic pattern appears to be a more sensitiv...

Paradoxical motion of interventricular septum in left bundle branch block.

Abnormal interventricular septal motion, with pre-ejection posterior motion and anterior motion away from the posterior left ventricular wall during ejection, was demonstrated by echocardiography in 14 out of 17 cases with complete left bundle branch block (LBBB). Two of 14 cases had intermittent LBBB and showed abnormal septal motion only during LBBB. Of the control group of 49 patients withou...

An echocardiographic study of the interventricular septum in constrictive pericarditis.

Ten patients with constrictive pericarditis were studied echocardiographically with specific reference to inter-ventricular septal dynamics. Abnormal movement of the interventricular septum was present in 8 patients and consisted of flattening in systole and unusual posterior motion in diastole. The aetiology of this type of movement is at present unknown but may be related to restriction of no...

Echocardiographic manifestation of right sinus of Valsalva aneurysm.

This case report describes the distinctive echocardiographic pattern in a patient with a congenital right sinus of Valsalva aneurysm. The eChocardiogram demonstrated an abnormal structure extending from the aortic root into the left ventricular chamber adjacent to the interventricular septum. The structure showed diastolic motion away from the septum and systolic motion toward the septum. This ...
